Use Any Molds. Gel-Foam can be used to create just about any makeup effect you may dream up. But the formula is specifically designed to be poured into a mold. You, of course, can use existing foam latex molds or you can make new ones When making new molds, keep in mind, they don't have to be baked out, since gelatin does not require baking. We have found cylinder style molds to be the best type of mold for gelatin. Large appliances can be used, however we found it better to use several small pieces as opposed to one big piece. Spray the molds with a light coat of Epoxy Parafilm prior to filling. Both the negative and positive need to be sprayed.

Making the Appliance: Place the desired amount of Gel-Foam into a microwave safe bowl and heat on high in a microwave oven. Heat at one-minute intervals mixing in-between heating cycles. This is done so the flocking doesn't become scorched. Keep doing this until all lumps are removed. The gelatin is now ready to pour. Pour the gelatin into the prepared mold, then close. Use the clamp to hold the mold tightly closed and to ensure thin edges in the prosthetic appliance. The gelatin is ready to be de-molded in about 30 minutes. Carefully open the mold allowing the gelatin to stick to whichever side it wants to. Usually the gelatin will stick inside the negative side of the mold. The gelatin will remain fairly sticky so powder must be used to ensure the edges won't fold over and stick to themselves. Slowly peel the appliance out of the mold, powdering as you go. There is usually a small amount of excess gelatin around the edges of the prosthetic appliance, which we call the 'flashing'. Leave only 1/8 of this flashing attached to the prosthetic, trim the rest away with scissors. The main reason for cutting the flashing is to reduce the weight and the risk of tearing the delicate edges of the appliance. You will want to keep the flashing attached to the prosthetic appliance until you have the piece glued to the skin. You can seal the gelatin to help it keep it's shape and staying power with Matthew Mungle's Sealer, brushed on both sides of prosthetic. Apply to skin with Pros-Aide, Pro Adhesive, Beta-Bond or Telesis 5 adhesive.

Easy Gelatin Formula (not foamed gelatin)
Dissolve 1 part gelatin into 1 part sorbitol, then add 1 part glycerin. Each part is by volume. Zinc Oxide can be added to the gelatin at the beginning to makeend piece stronger and more opaque. Place in microwave heating in 1 minute increments while mixing in between. Be careful it doesn't overheat and bubble over container. Very hot when it comes out so let it cool before applying.
